Our sweet little Benjamin turned TWO, and we celebrated his birthday with family, friends, and all his favorite farm animals. That’s right! We went with a farm party theme that everyone, and most importantly Benjamin, loved.
Old MacDonald may have had a farm, but Benjamin had the MOST FUN farm on his special day!
Choosing the Theme
Ever since I can remember, Benjamin has loved the outdoors and animals. And, I specifically remember one day when he came home from school, he kept singing “EI-EI-OHH.” So, when it came time to choose a theme for his second birthday party, “farm party” was a pretty easy decision. Of course, Benjamin was included in the decision-making process, and well, all things farm was the obvious winner.
The Details
The very personalized details we created left Benjamin smiling all day long.
From the delightful personalized invitations to farm-themed decorations, mouth-watering desserts and a delicious custom cake, Benjamin’s farm party had it all.
Decorations
The color palette I chose for Benjamin’s farm themed party turned out even better than I envisioned. I wanted to keep it neutral, but fun. Blue, orange, yellow and mint made a lovely color combination.
Reuse If Possible
I had leftover plastic cups, plates, etc. from my baby shower over two years ago that were never used, so I thought instead of buying more plastic, why not reuse the old stuff? When it comes to being eco-friendly, do your best. No one is perfect!
Some eco-friendly options that I DID have for Benjamin’s party were biodegradable and compostable wooden utensils (which tied in PERFECTLY to the farm party theme). I purchased these from Amazon, which you can buy here. I also purchased paper farm-themed plates, which were a hit among the kids. They also made for an easier cleanup.
The Invitations
I’m a big fan of e-invitations, so for this party, I used paperless post to create adorable personalized farm-themed invitations. Another important thing to note is that when you’re hosting a large gathering of people, be sure to ask your guests about allergies in the invitations.
I love feeding my guests, so preparing them delicious, nutritious, and most importantly, safe options is key.
E-I-E-I Oh Food!
Not only did the party space look fantastic, so did the food! From yummy desserts to healthy snacks, Benjamin’s guests couldn’t help but rave about the food. Big hands, little hands – you name it! Nobody kept his or her paws off!
Not only did my husband and I prepare some yummy options, but I also had SO much help from my family. Godparents, grandmothers, aunts, etc. all contributed some amazing-looking farm themed focused food for everyone to enjoy.
My mother was also a HUGE help! I literally created her a pinterest account and let her imagination run wild. She had so much fun searching through all the amazing farm party food and drink ideas! She even came up with a few of her own ideas. Thanks Mama!
Farm Party Sweets
The choice of desserts would make any partygoer shout “yeehaw.” There were delightful farm themed macaroons, courtesy of Delysee, darling rice krispies that looked like hay bales.
Of course, we can’t forget Benjamin’s custom two-tiered birthday cake topped with a personalized (and edible) farmer figurine from Velvet Lane. The figurine was literally a mini Ben. Talk about details! Thanks so much to Velvet Lane for this adorable and delicious cake and Delysees for the custom macaroons.
I didn’t want to go overboard with sweets here. I felt that having a few sweet options was better (and healthier) than having an entire table dedicated to desserts. Plus, the abundance of healthy food options kept our guests satisfied – yes, even our tiny partygoers!
Farm Fun & Games
While most of Benjamin’s party guests were adults, we couldn’t forget about the little ones. Although I was able to perfectly transform my home into a fun-filled farm, having a mix of toddlers and kids in a condo all afternoon requires LOTS of entertainment options.
Our friend Farmer Josh came with a guitar and stringed along some tunes for the kids. Baby Shark and Old MacDonald were clearly the favorites for the little ones. He also played some country classics for the adults!
We also set up a ball pit (a must for any toddler party) where the children could come and go as they please. This was borrowed from a friend (Thank you Kamila) which helped cut down party costs. I would have rented this either way as this was a complete hit. I highly recommend one for your next kids party!
Gender Reveal for Baby Number 2
Another fun activity that took place at Benjamin’s second birthday party was the gender reveal for our precious baby number two. Originally, we were going to do two different parties, but my husband and I agreed that what better gift to give our son than a sibling?
We had the Harmony test done early in my pregnancy – around ten weeks – and we decided that we’d keep it a secret (we didn’t even know). We arranged for my girlfriend to call the clinic to hear the gender first, so she could arrange the balloons. We did five black balloons and popped them each at a time (Benjamin and all the kids also loved watching this).
Basically, she had three black balloons filled with the colour of the gender of our baby, and two black balloons with the other gender’s colour.
My gut feeling was that it was a boy because there hasn’t been a female born in my husband’s lineage for SEVEN generations. Can you believe it? So, what do you think? Will Benjamin have a baby brother or a baby sister? Watch below to find out.
Party Favors
What doesn’t say happy kids better than some goodies to take home? Since I was feeling a bit guilty about using plastic kitchenware, I decided to reduce the amount of plastic I would use for the party favors. I tried my best to my the loot bags plastic and sugar free, so I filled paper barn boxes with crayons, an animal memory card game, farm themed bookmarks and stickers.
The Birthday Boy
You can’t have a farm party without a farmer! Of course, Benjamin was the farmer on his special day, and he dressed the part from head to toe.
Benjamin wore the cutest little overalls paired with a red bandana handkerchief, and adorable Chelsea boots. His entire party outfit was purchased by his grandmother – she put the farm party outfit together.
Capture Memories
It’s important to me to capture all these sacred memories on camera. And while I’m always snapping photos of my sweet little Benjamin, I wanted to be present with my birthday boy. With that being said, I decided to put my phone away. So, photographer Nicola came to my rescue! I was so pleased with the photos she captured for my baby shower, so I was thrilled when she agreed to capture Benjamin’s big day.
Another wonderful thing about Nicola is that she gave us ALL the photos taken that day, instead of only offering a certain number and having us pay extra for the rest. Total bonus!
A Farm Party to Remember
Everything about Benjamin’s second birthday party went off without a hitch! And while I don’t want my baby boy to grow up too quickly, I already can’t wait to celebrate his next birthday – and one that he’ll have a new sibling to make even more memories with!
