I remember my first Christmas as a mom. Ben was four months old, I was still getting the hang of routine’s, and had a very large family to host for dinner. Even though all hands were on deck, I was very overwhelmed. It’s hard to fit cooking, cleaning and setting up for large gatherings into the day when you also have a baby to tend to. Thankfully, I have the #PanasonicBabyMonitor, a baby monitor that I trust while I prep for Holiday dinners.

The #Panasonic Long Range Video Baby Monitor has been around for two babies now, and I’m so thankful to have this baby monitor. It’s been great, especially now that we are living in a bigger house (I didn’t have to worry about long range features when we were in a condo!). With it’s long range capabilities, clear video, and because it’s virtually unhackable, I never have to worry about my children’s safety and/or privacy. With another holiday season upon us, I thought I’d share some tips for new moms on how I made it through my first Christmas as a Mom, and how that first holiday prepared me for this Christmas as my first Christmas as a mom of TWO!

Take advantage of nap time

People used to tell me to nap when the baby napped. I definitely did this as much as possible, but around the holidays I used nap time to prep whatever I could. I would chop veggies, prep meals and get any baking done while the little ones napped. I never had to worry because I trusted that my long range baby monitor wouldn’t lose connection. The #PanasonicCanada Long Range Video Baby Monitor has a 1500 foot range, which is equivalent to more than the length of four football fields. I trust that while my babies are sleeping in their bedrooms, I can move freely around the house, and I never worry that the monitor will lose connection to the camera because our property is definitely not that big!

Ask for Help

For me, the hardest part of being a new mom was acknowledging that I needed help. I was very lucky that my mom essentially moved in with us (for a very short but fortunate time!), when both of our baby’s were born, and when we have holiday gatherings she is very helpful. But I know for many, it’s hard to ask for help. Don’t feel bad! You can’t do everything, and a baby is a lot of work, and truthfully your children will always be your main priority. So ask for help and accept help when it’s available.

Utilize the two-way talk function

I especially like this function for Christmas morning. Sometimes kids can be cranky when they just wake up, and a little trick I’ve learned is to start talking to them through the monitor before I enter their room as they’re waking up. When Ben was little I used to sing to him in the monitor until I entered his room, and I will definitely do this again with Bella as it’s a nice way to wake up! I find the more excited I am on the monitor, the happier they are to see me when I go to get them out of bed. On Christmas morning I have found this especially helpful with Ben in the past as this sets our morning tone and ensures everyone is in the best mood for one of the most memorable mornings of the year!

Stop stressing

It can be so easy to stress out around the holidays — trust me, I’m the first one to get flustered when things don’t go as planned. But the holidays, especially with little ones, can be some of the most precious moments as a family and I’d hate for you to miss those moments stressing over the “perfect” holiday plans. Perfect is being with your family, making lasting memories, and feeling stress-free. Enjoy the holidays, and hopefully some of these tips resonate with you as you enter Christmas as a new parent — or as your first Christmas as a parent of more than one! Happy Holidays!
